It’s a challenge to live in contemporary society and not be subject to stress at least some of the time. Yet now that we’re starting to realize how harmful stress can be, it makes sense to find better ways of controlling it before it does any real damage. If we better understand the major effects of stress, hopefully we’ll be motivated to take it seriously.

Everyone instinctively tries to reduce stress, but our first reaction isn’t always the best one. Stress is often behind smoking, drinking alcohol, unhealthy eating or taking drugs. These actions don’t actually reduce stress, except for a very short time. Because of the problems such behavior causes, it ends up leading to additional stress, which can be a downward spiral.

People who drink too much, for example, will eventually experience health problems, lose their job or have difficulties with their family, and this brings about even more stress. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if stress is causing you to engage in unhealthy or irresponsible actions.

There are many problems that come up with relationships, family or others, and one of the big ones is stress. Very often, for example, a couple may be having financial problems, leading to stress that causes tension and arguments around the house. Since both people in a relationship deal with stress in a different way, it doesn’t matter which one is experiencing it.

One big problem with relationships, is when one party will lash out at the other party, simply because of the stress they are going through.

So if you’re feeling stressed out at work, make sure you don’t take it out on your spouse or kids, as this will only cause the rest of your family to feel stress as well. Whenever you are under stress and having problems dealing with life, make sure you don’t bring it home.

Stress can cause different diseases, by reducing resistance and weakening the immune system, health experts have discovered. One way to quit having so many health conditions, such too many colds, or headaches, is to find as many ways as you can to reduce or eliminate stress in your life.

Just thinking about your own life, all of the times you had the flu or a cold, were you going through a stressful period in your life, or even feeling overworked. You probably don’t get a cold, every time you are around others who have colds, and that is because your resistance is up, but it might be a different story when stress has lowered your resistance.

When you are getting too many everyday ailments, you need to work on your stress levels.

More things are being thought to be caused by too much stress, and that list will probably get even longer. The effects of stress only seem to be bad for the health of people, even though scientists and doctors don’t all agree on exactly what stress does.

If nothing else, letting go of stress in our everyday lives will allow us to relax and enjoy life more. Extra years of life are one of the benefits of reducing stress in your life.
